Maureen Gabriel (LLB, GDLP, LLM, CCI, CCIA, CCP-CFC) – Principal Director.

Maureen Gabriel is an Australian legal practitioner, technology executive, company director, and specialist in the legal, regulatory, and governance challenges arising from emerging technologies. She is the Director of LightYear Legal, Principal In-House Counsel for LightYear Group, and Chief Executive Officer of LY Forensics, where she leads multidisciplinary teams working across digital forensics, cryptocurrency investigations, regulatory compliance, artificial intelligence governance, corporate advisory, and complex technology-enabled disputes.

Maureen holds a Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, and Master of Laws, together with a Graduate Certificate in Law, Policy and Regulation of Emerging Technologies from RMIT University. Her specialist qualifications also include a Master of Digital Currency from the University of Nicosia, a Diploma in Applied Blockchain, Certified Cryptocurrency Investigator accreditation, Advanced Cryptocurrency Concepts certification, and certification as a Compliance Professional in Cryptocurrency Financial Crimes.

Over the course of her career, Maureen has worked at the intersection of law, technology, and regulation, advising government agencies, corporations, private clients, and professional advisers on matters involving digital assets, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, AML/CTF compliance, digital evidence, corporate governance, commercial risk, and emerging regulatory frameworks.

In her role as Director of LightYear Legal, Maureen provides strategic legal leadership across commercial, regulatory, and governance matters, supporting organisations through complex legal issues, risk management, corporate structuring, regulatory compliance, and technology-driven transformation.

She has been engaged in matters involving cryptocurrency tracing, digital asset recovery, insolvency investigations, family law disputes involving digital assets, fraud investigations, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

As an expert witness and forensic investigator, she has led investigations involving hundreds of millions of dollars in digital assets and has provided independent expert evidence to courts and tribunals on matters involving cryptocurrency, blockchain transactions, and digital evidence.

Maureen is also actively involved in the development of AI-powered legal and compliance technologies, with a particular focus on legal reasoning systems, regulatory intelligence, governance frameworks, explainable AI, and the practical implementation of trustworthy AI within professional services.

Her work is driven by a commitment to helping organisations navigate the rapidly evolving legal, policy, and regulatory landscape surrounding emerging technologies while ensuring innovation remains aligned with governance, compliance, and public trust.
